I wish you were here….

Kiln-carved clear Bullseye glass.

This was a project completed during the COVID-19 lockdown, 4 postcards of places I have been longing to travel to. Each one was made from Bullseye Glass, using a technique called kiln-carving, each carving was hand cut and the glass ‘slumped’.

Santorini was featured in the Contemporary Glass Society online exhibition "A Postcard from…” which can be viewed here https://www.cgs.org.uk/onlineexhibition/a-postcard-from

Santorini:

The landscape of Santorini unfolds within the dimensions of this small canvas, inviting viewers to experience the tranquillity and charm of the island.

The kiln-carving technique employed in the creation of this piece adds a three-dimensional quality, with intricately carved details forming a visual narrative of Santorini's iconic architecture, rolling hills, and the vast expanse of the Aegean Sea. The transparency of the clear glass allows light to play a crucial role, casting shadows and reflections that mimic the ever-changing hues of the Mediterranean sky.

This artwork, conceived during the pandemic, resonates with the collective desire for escapism and the longing for the beauty of faraway places. Santorini serves as a miniature window to a world beyond, offering solace and inspiration during uncertain times.

Whether displayed as a standalone piece or as part of a collection, Santorini is a reminder of the universality of beauty and the ability of art to evoke emotions, transport us to distant places, and inspire hope in the midst of uncertainty.
